Biography

Ty Masterson is the Republican nominee for Governor of Kansas, running for the open seat being vacated by term-limited Democrat Laura Kelly. Born in El Dorado and raised in Andover, Masterson is a small-business owner who served in the Kansas House from 2005 to 2008 before winning election to the Kansas Senate in 2009. Since 2021 he has served as President of the Kansas Senate, where he has been the conservative counterweight to the Kelly administration, rallying his colleagues to override her vetoes and cutting taxes for Kansas families. Endorsed by President Trump, Masterson won a hard-fought seven-way Republican primary and is campaigning to end years of liberal mismanagement in Topeka.

Policy Positions

  1. Cut Taxes & Make Kansas Affordable

    Masterson believes Kansans should keep more of what they earn. He helped deliver a $2 billion income and property tax cut, and the Senate he leads ended the state income tax on Social Security and the sales tax on groceries. He is fighting for a constitutional amendment capping annual increases in property valuations at 3% so surging assessments can't drive seniors from their homes or keep young families from buying one, and he supports moving Kansas to a single flat income tax rate. His goal is simple: make Kansas one of the most affordable states in America to work, raise a family, and start a business.

  2. Secure the Border & Back Law Enforcement

    Masterson stands with President Trump on securing the border and removing illegal aliens, and he refuses to accept rising violent crime as the new normal in Kansas. He has also fought to protect Kansas land around our military installations from foreign adversaries like Communist China, legislation Governor Kelly vetoed. As governor, he will put the safety of Kansas communities first.

  3. Life & Kansas Values

    Masterson is a steadfast defender of the unborn who has repeatedly led the Senate to override Governor Kelly's vetoes of pro-life protections. He has vowed to fight the radical ideology that has crept into Kansas classrooms and culture, putting parents back in charge of their children's education and standing up for the faith, family, and freedom that define Kansas.
