Biography
Jon Echols is a fifth-generation Oklahoman whose family has worked the same farm in Okeene since 1889 — roots that run deep in the values of faith, hard work, and personal responsibility that define our state. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he graduated first in his class, Jon built a career as a practicing attorney and small business owner before entering public service. Elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2012, Jon served House District 90 for 12 years and rose to become House Majority Floor Leader — the longest-serving Floor Leader in Oklahoma history. In that role, he earned a reputation as a steady, principled conservative who fought to defend the Constitution, back the men and women of law enforcement, protect religious liberty, uphold the Second Amendment, and stand for the right to life. He was a driving force behind tax cuts and pro-growth policies for Oklahoma families and small businesses, and he championed tougher measures to secure our communities and hold the line on illegal immigration. Jon's commitment to Oklahoma goes well beyond the Capitol. He co-founded Shelter Oklahoma Schools, a charitable effort that has raised more than $2.5 million to build storm shelters in schools across the state, protecting children in communities like Western Heights and Moore. He has also served on the board of the City Rescue Mission, extending a hand to Oklahoma City's most vulnerable. A man of faith, Jon and his wife, Kristen, are raising their three children in the Capitol Hill Baptist Church community, where the values of family and service are lived out daily. Now running for Oklahoma Attorney General, Jon Echols brings the same conservative convictions, legal expertise, and record of results that Oklahomans have trusted for over a decade. He is ready to defend our laws, our liberties, and our way of life as the state's next chief law enforcement officer.
Policy Positions
Standing with Law Enforcement
A staunch "Back the Blue" candidate, Echols has built his campaign around respect and support for the men and women in law enforcement. He's earned endorsements from 17 county sheriffs across the state, including the sheriffs of Oklahoma and Tulsa counties, reflecting the trust he's built with those on the front lines of public safety.
Protecting Taxpayers and Rejecting Woke Overreach
Echols has pledged to serve as a watchdog over state spending, building on his legislative record helping create the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency (LOFT) to root out government waste and mismanagement. He's also committed to keeping DEI policies out of the Attorney General's office, arguing that every Oklahoman — regardless of status or connections — should be treated equally under the law.
