Biography

John E. Sununu is an MIT-trained engineer and Harvard MBA from a New Hampshire family with deep roots in public service. He served in the U.S. House and then won a Senate seat, becoming one of the youngest senators in the country, with a record of fiscal discipline and limited government. He previously served in the Senate from 2003 to 2009. Now he is running to win back that seat: he won the Republican primary on September 8, 2026 with 69% of the vote, defeating a field that included former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, and Trump endorsed Sununu in the primary. This is the first open Senate race in New Hampshire in years, since Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen is not seeking a fourth term.

Policy Positions

  1. Creating a Healthier America

Ever concerned with the wellbeing of all Americans, John Sununu has co-sponsored legislation to restore the protection of Americans with disabilities, ensuring everyone can live, learn, and work with dignity. John Sununu has also championed bipartisan reforms to mental health, to treat mental illness like the disease it is, helping families in New Hampshire, and across the country.

  2. Protecting Americans’ Privacy

The privacy of Americans is under greater threat than ever before, and John Sununu is prepared to take on the challenge. John has pushed reforms to surveillance laws to protect ordinary Americans from government overreach, and will hold Big Tech accountable to protect the right to be free from surveillance for all Americans.

  3. Defending Americans’ Economic Freedom

A consistent opponent of tax increases, as a Senator, John Sununu wrote the law to ban taxes on internet access. John Sununu will always oppose all tax hikes on America’s middle class, and will work to ensure New Hampshire families are able to afford housing, healthcare, and energy.
